Govalo Gift Guide 2021 - Josh’s wishlist

In the weeks leading up to the holidays, searches for gift ideas skyrocket. Whether it’s “gifts for dad”, “unique gifts for friends”, “gifts for someone who has everything”, the list goes on and on. Gift guides can often be a lifeline when it comes to those hard-to-buy-for friends and family members.

That’s precisely why we asked our team what’s on their holiday wishlists this year. With all different hobbies, interests, and even locations, we’ve got a long list of unique and interesting gift ideas.

Today’s list comes from Josh Echeverri.

Josh Echeverri

Josh is a Staff Engineer at Govalo. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, he started his career writing code for a local Bitcoin ATM startup in 2015. Since then, he has joined teams at several startups and multinational corporations to help them execute their product vision. When he's not logged into his terminal, you can find him enjoying time with his partner Carrie, watching the Miami Heat at FTX Arena, or fishing in the Florida Keys.

#1 - Magic Spoon - Fun, nostalgic, actually healthy cereal

Remember when you were a kid, and you’d eat mountains of cereal without knowing that the word “nutrition” even existed? As we get older, we start to think more about the nutritional value of our food, and soon all those sugary, chocolatey, fun cereals stop getting added to our carts. Well, Magic Spoon has recreated all your childhood favorites with the same great flavor but with none of the nasties. Their cereals are grain free, gluten free, low calorie, and high protein. They use a blend of monk fruit, stevia, and allulose to give it such a great sweetness you wouldn’t even know their cereals are zero sugar. If you’re looking to give someone a hit of healthy nostalgia this holiday season, Magic Spoon has you covered.

#2 - Zanerobe - Style and comfort with a conscience

Zanerobe started as so many small businesses do - two friends looking to bring their great idea to life. Jono and Leith started by designing clothes they actually wanted to wear, rather than settling for the substandard quality they could find in Sydney at the time. That idea grew into a much bigger mission - rather than just designing quality clothing, let’s also make it with low environmental impact. With sustainability at their core, Zanerobe’s clothes aren’t led by short-lived trends or fads but by timeless pieces made with the best, sustainable materials designed for longevity. By taking this approach, their clothes last longer in your wardrobe rather than being throwaway seasonal pieces.

#3 - Bodega - Curated, creative apparel

Since 2006, Bodega has worked to curate the very best in footwear, apparel, and accessories from some of the world’s leading brands. Started by three friends struggling to find meaningful work in their respective artistic fields, they founded Bodega as a concept from fusing art, fashion, design and counter-culture, supporting art and creative expression. If you’re looking for the likes of New Balance, Lazy Oaf, Commes de Garcons, Adidas, Human Made, and more, and want to buy from a brand with a strong commitment to community and social responsibility, look no further.

#4 - Toadfish Outfitters - Eco-friendly coastal gear

For some, there’s nothing better than going on a fishing trip, spending time with friends by the ocean. However for that to continue, we need to look after our water - and that’s what Toadfish aim to do. They make a range of coastal apparel, fishing equipment, and outdoor kitchenware, and for every product sold they replant a new oyster habitat vital to a healthy saltwater ecosystem. Ideal if you're looking for something for the outdoor adventurer in your friend group, or the expert angler in the family.

#5 - Ruggable - Rugs, runners, and doormats designed for everyday life

A stand-out rug can truly turn a room around, but the upkeep can be a pain. No one wants to be down on their knees desperately scrubbing red wine out a fancy rug, or throwing it away completely after a few too many dirty footprints. When Ruggable founder Jeneva’s dog ruined her brand new, expensive rug, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Ruggable make beautiful, functional rugs that are machine-washable, water and stain resistant, and non-slip to make life’s little accidents that bit easier. The perfect gift the one with the mucky pup, a kid who loves using felt pens in the wrong places, or just wants a great rug without the hassle.
